The 2024 Taiwan Creative Content Fest Pitching Conference (TCCF PITCHING) announced its list of selected projects on September 13. Highlights include Child Uninvited, the new film by Busan Film Commission Award winner Mai NAKANISHI; Cubs, a crime story by an award-winning Indonesian team whose works have been featured multiple times at international film festivals such as Venice, Berlin, and Busan; the sci-fi film Worldbot by Thai director Sasapitt RUJIRAT, who has been recognized at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and the Hiroshima Animation Festival; The Birdwatcher, a project already selected for Visions du Réel’s Development Lab in Switzerland and the Singapore International Film Festival’s Southeast Asian Film Lab; and The Ballad of Yaya, an animated work by the Emmy-winning French team Blue Spirit Productions. These projects by internationally acclaimed directors and teams will showcase their commercial potential and unique qualities to leading film and television companies from the US, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, France, Germany, and beyond, competing for opportunities in the global film and television market.
This year’s TCCF PITCHING attracted nearly 600 project submissions from production teams across 50 countries. The projects were evaluated by an international panel of judges from Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea, the US, Germany, Austria, Indonesia, and Malaysia, who lauded the exceptionally high standard. Following intense deliberation, the jury selected a total of 62 projects from 21 countries, based on criteria such as narrative integrity, commercial potential, and the team’s international co-production experience. These selections will compete for a total prize pool of TWD 7.2 million — the largest in TCCF PITCHING history — comprising around 30 awards sponsored by private entities as well as international festival resources.
TAICCA will also be providing two prizes: the “TAICCA AWARD: Best Project” (USD 30,000) and the “TAICCA AWARD: Best Story” (TWD 300,000). The selected teams will participate in training workshops guided by pitching experts including Emmy- and BAFTA-nominated producers and international film and television industry executives, designed to enhance their pitches and improve their chances of breaking into the global market.
TCCF PITCHING brings together promising projects from both the local and overseas market, attracting international buyers and film/TV companies looking for international co-production opportunities. This year’s conference is divided into two sections: “Project to Screen” and “Story to Screen”. The former focuses on domestic and international film and series projects, categorized into feature films, series, animation, and documentaries. The latter targets Taiwanese original published books and comics that have the potential to be adapted for film and television.
This year’s “Project to Screen” section received 418 submissions from 50 teams across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. These projects, featuring a diverse range of themes and unique styles, were evaluated by a preliminary jury comprising representatives from the international film and television industry, including producer Johan JANG from EGGISCOMING, the production company behind Hospital Playlist; drama producer Robert FRANKE from the renowned German TV network ZDF Studios GmbH; Justin S. LEE, a writer who worked on Netflix’s Resident Evil series; and Alan TUAN, the former Head of Local Content for Disney+ Greater China. In the end, the jury selected 42 projects.
The “Story to Screen” section received 159 project submissions this year, highlighted by a wide variety of genres and diverse narratives and subject matter. The projects were evaluated by a professional industry panel of renowned film producers, series producers, and content directors, including renowned producer CHANG Tzu-yi, producer Sarso CHOU, and screenwriter CHIEN Li-ying. Ultimately, the jury selected 12 original Taiwanese published books and comics. In addition to cross-media story projects, “Story to Screen” also features TCCF’s first collaboration with “Shoot the Book!”, the renowned screen adaptation initiative by the Civil Society of French-Language Publishers (SCELF). For this special pitch session, TAICCA invited producers with international IP adaptation experience — including Nelson MOK of Singapore’s Mokster Films, Peter CHOE of South Korean IP investment company Blintn, as well as an active film and series producer from South Korea, a producer from a French film and TV company, and a Taiwanese film producer — to select eight published works from Taiwan and France with international market potential to present public pitches, opening up more opportunities for international collaboration.
The 2024 TCCF is set to take place from November 5 to 8 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 2, 7F.
