Rollin’on with Taiwan Animation
Each year, the Mifa Pitches aim to showcase the best original animation film projects in development. Initially, in 4 categories — Feature Films, Short Films, TV Series & Specials, and Digital Experiences — the Pitches are becoming more elaborate every year.
Mifa announced the official selected projects for the 2021 Mifa Pitches in May. After 433 projects registered for the market, 36 are chosen in the lineup, two of which are from Taiwan. “Immersive Criminology Ep2: ‘Baby Frog’ ” by HiBrain Image and “Who’s Our Sub Today? ” by DotToDot.
In addition, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival has received for the Short Films, Graduation Films, and TV and Commissioned Films categories, over 2,700 films coming from almost one hundred different countries this year. This year, four of them are from Taiwan. Three short films were nominated for Graduation short Films in Competition, “Drawn Undrew Draw” by Angel WU,” Girl in the Water” by Shi Rou HUANG, and ''La Confiture de papillons'' by Shih-Yen HUANG. And one film was nominated by Feature Films Contrechamp in Competition,'' City of Lost Things'' by Chih-Yen YEE.

Immersive Criminology: Episode 2 "Baby Frog" | HiBrain Image
Synopsis: Big Frog, Baby Frog's best friend, was kidnapped and taken to the Kingdom of Giants, an unknown and very dangerous place. We will go with Baby Frog into the evil Kingdom of Giants to rescue his best friend Big Frog.

Synopsis: As a 16-year-old struggling teenager, Leaf runs away from home, skips classes and ends up, mysteriously, in a peculiar place, City of Lost Things. There he meets Baggy, a 30-year-old plastic bag. Baggy never sees himself as just another piece of unwanted junk. He has a purpose in his life, that is, to lead his tribe to flee City of Lost Things. But he needs the help of a reluctant Leaf to fight the dreadful army of the Armors.

(3) Graduation Short Films in Competition
- Butterfly Jam | HUANG Shih-yen
Synopsis: A young woman describes her father and his relationship to his many pets that he never managed to take care of. The animals consistently die one after the other in a context of a family being torn apart. This is the story of those clumsy people whose tactless expression of love ends up pushing away loved ones.

- Girl in the Water | HUANG Shi-rou
Synopsis: In a dilapidated room, a woman gazes at the drying wall while touching the scar on her leg, as memories of a lost love come flooding back. Girl in the Water is a hand-drawn animation based on the director’s personal experiences, painted in watercolor and pastel frame by frame. The film depicts femininity and female internal time-consciousness through the convalescence of a woman' s broken heart.
